Last month the CBCC Council Members came together for our Monthly Meetng to honor Elder Principal Chief Clemeseau Allen, followed by a Ceremonial Medicine Dance who returned to the Spirit World. Shaman Red Deer spoke to us, there was an unusually packed meeting filled with members and guest. He was an esteemed Principal Chief and Scholar. He was also the first cousin of Shaman Red Deer. Perhaps one to the most accomplished Principal Chiefs from Wester Virginia. Principal Chief Clemeseau Allen devoted his life to the teaching of Music, History, Choir Director and Professor of Social Studies. He was also Shaman Red Deer’s music teacher and mentor in his early years. Instrumental and inspiring Shaman Red Deer’s vision of gathering Non-Resevational Indigenous People in unity.
Principal Chief Clemeseau Allen was a graduate of Columbia Teachers College of New York City with a degree in Teaching. He was a teacher of Music, a Football coach, a Historian, and in his early years he had a Jazz Band. He was also a deeply devoted Religious Scholar, in and around the immediate West Virginia region. For many, many years he served as the Principal Chief of the Appalachian Totelu Blue Fox Clan Cherokee Indians.
Shaman Red Deer spoke of his humble beginnings, growing up in West Virginia and how Principal Chief Clemenseau Allen taught him Music and mentored him. He was taught first hand the power of unity. Shaman Red Deer reminded us that we must:
“DO BETTER, BE BETTER, EXPECT BETTER”
As Shaman Red Deer closed the Meeting in prayer, and I quote Shaman Red Deer “May Grandfather accept his walk into the spirit world, his journey has been a Momentous one. He is among the Ancestors, we pray that his moccasins are golden, his regalia are of the finest of fringes weaved in gold. May Grandfather accept him into the Spirit World, amen!
